Erik Larsen is an American-based golf course architect and land-planning specialist with more than four decades of experience in golf course design, renovation, and community-based redevelopment. He is the founder and principal of LarsenGolf, Inc., based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and a past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA).
A native of Newton, Iowa, Larsen earned a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture from North Carolina State University before beginning a career shaped by hands-on experience across nearly 100 courses in more than 20 U.S. states and over two dozen countries.
Career With Arnold Palmer Design
From 1983 through the mid-2000s, Larsen served as a lead and senior designer at Arnold Palmer Course Design Company, working closely with Arnold Palmer and fellow ASGCA past president Ed Seay. In 2005 he was named Executive Vice President, overseeing global operations and project delivery for the firm.
LarsenGolf and Independent Practice
In 2011, Larsen founded LarsenGolf, Inc., launching an independent practice focused on golf course architecture, land planning, and golf community revitalization. His work spans new course design, major renovations, restorations, and redevelopment projects that integrate golf with residential, recreational, and social amenities. He is widely associated with planning strategies that improve course sustainability while right-sizing golf properties and freeing land for complementary uses.
Notable projects include Atlantic Beach Country Club and St. Johns Golf Club in Northeast Florida, both recognized as models of community-driven golf revitalization. Atlantic Beach was featured on Golf Channel during PGA Tour Korn Ferry Tour Championship broadcasts and recognized by the Urban Land Institute. Larsen has been an ASGCA member since 1990, serving on its Executive Committee, Board of Governors, and Foundation committees. He holds ASGCA, EIGCA, and CLARB credentials and recently served as an instructor at the ASGCA Design Boot Camp.
